Google Analytics 4: traffic and conversions in operational investigations

Opsphere now queries a connected Google Analytics 4 property during an operational investigation. Read-only tools cover traffic, acquisition, pages, events, conversions, funnels, realtime, and property metadata. The ga4 module stays disabled until that tenant links Google with Connect Google and an operator enables the google and ga4 modules. Google Analytics remains the source of those results.

When ga4_default_property is set in Admin, tools use that property. Macros can place traffic and conversion shifts next to deploys and incidents. That narrative does not claim a deploy or an incident caused the shift. Opsphere is read-only by default.

What changes

A connected Google Analytics 4 property can now be queried during an investigation. The result is traffic, acquisition, pages, events, conversions, funnels, realtime activity, and property metadata from the GA4 Data and Admin APIs. Google Analytics remains the source of that data.

How it works

A tenant links Google through Connect Google OAuth. An operator enables Google Marketing APIs in Google Cloud, the platform OAuth client on the gateway, migration 154, and the google and ga4 modules for that tenant. Admin can set ga4_default_property. Google Analytics supplies the property data. Opsphere queries it for the investigation.

  • ga4_traffic_overview reads traffic.
  • ga4_acquisition_report reads acquisition.
  • ga4_pages_performance reads page performance.
  • ga4_events_report and ga4_conversions_report read events and conversions.
  • ga4_funnel_analysis reads funnels.
  • ga4_realtime_overview reads realtime activity.
  • ga4_properties_list and ga4_property_details read property metadata.

Why it matters

During a release or an incident, a team can read traffic and conversion shifts from Google Analytics next to deploys and other connected signals. The reading does not treat that shift as proof of a cause. Google Analytics remains the source.

Limits and requirements

Opsphere is read-only by default. Source systems remain authoritative for the underlying operational data. Narrative output does not claim causation.

  • Requires Connect Google OAuth and the google and ga4 modules enabled for the tenant.
  • Operator setup includes Google Marketing APIs in Google Cloud, the platform OAuth client on the gateway, and migration 154.
  • Tools use ga4_default_property from Admin when that default is set.
  • Macros that place GA4 shifts next to deploys or incidents do not claim causation.
